Faroe Islands V Scotland 6th June 2007
Getting to the Faroe Islands is a tad harder than getting a deep-fried Mars Bar at 2 in the morning but it should be well worth it if Scotland can go top of Group B.
Flights:
There are two ways that we can find to fly to Torshavn (FAE) and that's from Aberdeen and London Stanstead with Atlantic Airways. However, the Faroe Islands tourist site shows other route - but we can't find them.
By Ferry:
We've checked "A Ferry.to" but it seems the only fery from Scotland to the Faroe Islands leaves the day after the match or a week before and costs aroun £290.
You could also try: FerryCheap.com and Cheap 4 Ferries.
Torshavn Hotels:
Torshavn is a prety little place named after the God of thunder and lightening in Norse mythology.
You can get a hostel for aroun 16 Euros a night if you're sharing or between 30 and 40 for a private room from HostelBookers in Øravik and Sørvágur.
Stadium Details:
The match will probably be played at the Tórsvøllur stadium. The intersting fact is that they have no lighting, but with the game being held in early June there shouldn't be any need for a lunch-time kick-off on the Wednesday seeing as they'll be getting shed-loads of light around then.
Getting there from the airport:
It isn't going to be cheap, but probably the best best is to try for a taxi or ask a local for a bus.
Facts about Tórshavn:
Population: 46,000.
The capital, Torshavn, has 16,500 inhabitants.
Climate: Average temperatures range from 3ºC in winter to 11ºC in summer.
Language: Faroese (rooted in Old Norse).
English widely spoken.
