Only a goal from Diego in injury time took the shine off a fantastic performance from the home team that showed the passion and determination that all England fans demand.

David Beckham was always going to be the work-horse of the team and the press were always going to focus on every detail of his game. Thankfully he performed well and set up England's goal - an inch perfect freekick which found John Terry's head at the far post.

The match was an almost perfect shoe-in for the game on Wednesday against Estonia.
