588,716 Fans want to go to Euro 2008
A stunning 588,716 fans have applied for Euro 2008 tickets on the official UEFA site.
The interesting fact is that there were applications from 142 countries and 10,359,177 tickets ordered in total. Boy would I love to see their bank balance when the tickets are paid for!
There were 119,109 other fans that appled for "follow my team" tickets! This is where you'll get tickets for your team as they progress through the tournament and get part of your money back if they don't reach the final. Or all of it if they don't even make it to Austria and Switzerland.
The upshot of the success of this round of ticket sales is that the second round has been abandoned. It was due to sell any unsold tickets on a "first-come, first served" basis.
However, you may still be able to get tickets from your own association (i.e. The FA, or SFA etc) as they'll get around 19% of tickets for each match for their team.
For those of us who did try and get tickets during March, we'll find out in December if we've got them - and more importantly earlier to see if we actually qualify.
