2nd September Round-Up

Well, there were some pretty interesting results for the Euro 2008 qualifying games played on 2nd September.

The match that stands out like a sore thumb is the one that showed the World Cup winners Italy couldn't defeat lowly Lithuania with the home side at one stage loosing following a Danilevicius strike on twenty minutes. The Italians came back nine minutes later through the aging Inzaghi. Group B looks weird with Scotland leading it with France in second. And Italy may fall further behind unless they get a good result against France. With their next match at home to Ukraine on 7th October which also won't be an easy one they could end up after three games with just 2, 4 or 5 points!

The Czech Republic v Wales game was also an interesting one with Wales proving more of a threat than some had predicted. With the Welsh facing Slovakia at home and with their current form we would be expecting a hard-fought victory.

England v Andorra was an example of how a team should conduct themselves on the pitch. Andorra spent most of the match hugging the grass and the referee loved blowing his whistle. We should leave it there!

France had a convincing victory against Georgia with both Saha and Henry appearing on the score sheet.

Holland surprisingly could only manage a solitary goal against neighbours Luxembourg.

Northern Ireland v Iceland was frustrating and annoying - we expected more.

Scotland started their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign in style with a 6:0 thrashing of Faroe Islands. The change in attitude in the Scotland camp looks like its started to pay dividends.

Spain had a good 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein but should have scored many more.
